Interior Designer vs. Architect – Know the difference
It is common knowledge that building a house requires the expertise of both an architect and an interior designer. However, there still exists skepticism about who does what. Do we need both an interior designer and architect while constructing a new house? Will the architect take care of the interiors of the home? Can the interior
designer also make the architectural plan?
We at Renu Soni Interior Designs are here to put all your doubts to rest and help you make informed choices and decisions, by chalking out the main differences between an architect and an interior designer.
Fundamentally, an architect is mainly responsible for the design and construction of
a building and its façade, while an interior designer takes charge of all the interiors of
the home, from furnishing, accessorizing and décor, to lighting, choosing color
schemes, flooring, sourcing the right materials, etc.
An architects’ primary job is to create an architectural plan for the property, keeping
in mind the clients’ requirements, abiding by the building codes and regulatory
requirements. The architect works closely with the construction workers and
contractors, to ensure proper execution of the project plan.
On the other hand, an interior designer adds life to this building, by making the
internal space functional, safe, aesthetically pleasing and livable. An interior designer
begins with understanding the lifestyle and choices of the clients and builds a design
plan within the clients’ budget. This is followed by a detailed virtual blueprint of the
design plan to better understand the other aspects such as plumbing, electrical
points, floor design, woodwork, furniture, wall paints and false ceilings. An interior
designer does an end-to-end job, i.e, from conceptualizing the idea to bringing these
ideas to life. Minute details such as color schemes for each room, accessories,
placement of switches and plugs, are all taken care by the interior designer. In
addition, an interior designer also liaisons with carpenters, electricians, plumbers and
other vendors to ensure timely completion of the project.
An interior designer therefore, adds soul to an otherwise lifeless structure created by
the architect. At Renu Soni Interior Designs (Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula) we
take the utmost care of our clients’ needs and deliver the best interior designing
services.
