Client Project Design Advice Inspiration Tips

Client Project: BrewBakes Cafe Interior Design

Just completed a new franchise based cafe. It’s based in Chandigarh under the name of BrewBakes. The client brief: to provide seating for 8-10, a well equipped kitchen with service at both ends, 4 weeks to open and a tight budget.

The Design Process

Display cabinets and other woodwork had to be dismantled first.  After that, the false ceiling was completely removed. This revealed different levels. An exposed ceiling would visually create more space.

By the time the wiring was over, plastering of the walls and ceiling began. The area was air dried thoroughly. Pre-cut interlocking pinewood planks were then fixed to the walls in the front. And white glossy tiles in the kitchen area.

Meanwhile, stainless steel counters, shelving and movable furniture were ordered. And fabrication of the wooden structures started on and off-site. This included the serving counter, fixed banquet seating, wall cabinetry and the suspended ceiling. Next, followed the installation of the light fixtures. These included pendants, T4 tube lights, track lights and surface mounted down lighters.

No doubt, the area was small. But by using a variety of wall finishes, the customer is constantly engaged by their surroundings. In addition to the front service counter, another service hatch was erected in the kitchen for delivery collections. For the front of the cafe, we introduced a Crittall style facade using a black powder coated mild steel frame and laid a new tiled floor.

Due to budget constraints, only the seating area had a new wooden laminate floor. The original vitrified tiled floor remained in the kitchen. Lastly, cooking equipment, signage and accessories added to the much required finishing touches.

On the whole, we were able to meet our deadline thanks to total cooperation from our client. Thank you Kapoor brothers! Look forward to our next collaboration soon.
