Architectural Facade Design – Hospitality

Project Brief

Located in the serene hills of Dharampur, this boutique hotel was envisioned as a luxury hillside retreat that blends contemporary design with the natural charm of the Himalayan landscape. The client’s key objectives were:

  • A distinctive architectural identity that stands out while respecting the natural surroundings
  • A façade design that reflects premium hospitality standards
  • Integration of natural materials suited to the mountain climate
  • Creation of inviting outdoor balconies and viewing decks for guests

The goal was to design a façade that communicates warmth, elegance, and exclusivity.

Architectural Concept

The design concept revolves around Rustic Heritage Revival, combining clean contemporary lines with natural materials inspired by the surrounding pine forests and hills. Key conceptual elements include:

  • Layered façade composition creating depth and visual interest
  • Strong horizontal lines that follow the natural slope of the terrain
  • Large glazed openings to capture panoramic mountain views
  • Warm material tones that harmonize with the natural environment

The façade is designed to appear both contemporary and contextually rooted, ensuring the building feels naturally integrated within its landscape.

Massing & Elevation Strategy

The architectural massing focuses on balanced volumes and stepped terraces that respond to the hillside terrain. Design highlights include:

  • A central vertical feature element acting as the visual anchor of the building
  • Projecting balconies that create depth and rhythm across the façade
  • Recessed sections that introduce shadow play and reduce visual bulk
  • Clear geometric composition enhancing the building’s contemporary character
  • Pitch roof

The result is a façade that feels dynamic, elegant, and visually layered.

Material Palette

A carefully curated palette of materials was selected to enhance both aesthetics and durability in a hill environment. Primary materials include:

  • Natural Stone Cladding: Adds warmth and contextual relevance
  • Wood Finish Panels / HPL Wood: Bringing natural texture and richness
  • Powder-Coated Metal Elements: Used for railings and façade accents
  • Large Glass Panels: Maximizing views and natural light
  • Textured Exterior Plaster: Creating subtle contrast between volumes

The combination of these materials creates a façade that is timeless, refined, and environmentally responsive.

Balcony, Lighting & Sustainability

Balcony & Outdoor Experience: Private balconies for each guest room with glass and metal railings to preserve unobstructed views and integrated planters.

Lighting Design: Warm façade lighting to accentuate stone textures, linear lights for architectural bands, and soft ambient lighting for outdoor areas.

Sustainability: Deep balcony projections for natural shading, large windows for daylight, and durable materials suitable for varying climatic conditions.

  • Challenge 1: Designing within a sloping hill terrain.
Solution: Stepped massing and terrace-based planning to adapt to the natural slope.
