India Design 2014 breathes luxury

admin

Last weekend, Pepperfry.com, who recently appointed me as one of their design gurus invited me to attend a prestigious interior design show featuring Delhi’s finest luxury brands – India Design 2014.

Located at the NSIC grounds in Okhla, New Delhi, the exhibition was no like other I had visited. We were welcomed by a fully carpeted open air concourse dotted with pagoda styled marquees and quaint food stalls with their not to be missed designer seating. Situated on its right, were the three main tented halls showcasing the best in furniture and home decor.

The standard and creativity of these temporary exhibition stalls was very impressive indeed. Having been to the Chelsea Design Centre, London not so long ago, I can very proudly say that we are not far behind when it comes to showmanship. The imagination injected easily transformed the humble stall to a stage set for visual niceness. Please ex...

Current Trends To Show Off This Season

admin

The Explorer trend has been edging its way into the interior designing and decoration scene for some time but it is now that it is currently grabbing a lot of attention.

As the name suggests, it’s is all about global travel which of course incorporates the more obvious maps and globes in their many forms. But this trend has evolved to include items such as scientific instruments, bell jars and terrariums, as well as botanical influences, giving the look much more of a Christopher Columbus.

The colours in this trend are quite muted, with beiges, creams and browns predominant. I, as an interior decorator, believe that black is also a key colour and gives it a much more modern feel.

An extension of this trend that has the same vibe is the library look – reminiscent of a men’s club and works particularly well in sitting rooms, offices and of course

Home Interior – Paint It Right!

admin

Choosing the right paint color for a wall can be quite a challenge. The industry’s leaders, Dulux, Asian Paints and Nerolac, offer such a huge range you just don’t know where to start.

  • You can start with a reference point in that room, for example a piece of artwork or sofa, curtain fabric.
  • Most paint stores have a colour matching machine – you may have come across a particular colour that you just have to have but it’s not available in a shade card. As long as you have a small sample with you, any colour can be custom made
  • If painting a large room, go for brighter warm shade to bring it and a cooler colour for small room to push walls out

  • Don’t be in a hurry to make your final choice. Gather your short list of paint swatches but at the same time remember to take on board the overall scheme of the room and its interiors. The rug, the upholstery fabric...

A Few Tips To Help You While Shopping For Tiles

admin

Tiles….what size, colour, finish?? With the vast choice of tiles available today, selection can be quite a task. Bathrooms and kitchens primarily have seen an injection of new designs and materials recently.  So what’s new?

Technology has propelled tile design to another level. Methods such as digital printing and ink jet printing are transforming less expensive tiles like porcelain and ceramic and giving them looks of marble, limestone, granite, stone, and wood.

Wood finish is gaining immense popularity, particularly petrified, aged and reclaimed wood finish. Manufacturers are pushing all boundaries in perfecting that look for example traditional hardwood planks and patterns like parquet and herringbone. This is fabulous for those of us who find authentic hard wood floors to maintain. Sizes available are huge and different widths and lengths can be mixed. Thus, providing you a wide range of c...

A Global Look At Home Interiors

admin

This week I thought I’d share home interiors from around the world that I just love.

This Costa Brava home on the east coast of Spain is a beautiful modern structure, very different to the rustic colonial ones we’re accustomed to. Making the most of the magnificent views, the home is constructed largely of glass, giving it a very spacious and airy feel. The sophisticated cool white interiors compliment the blue sea and greenery surrounding it. From Trendland.com, property originally listed on Sotheby’s International Realty.

This home is situated at The Peak, Victoria with its panoramic views of Hong Kong Island. The

My Visit To Europe’s Premier Interior Design Destination

admin

During a recent trip home to England, I made sure the Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour, was very much on my itinerary this time. I had read about it several times, but never had the chance to visit. The Design Centre must be applauded for its efforts to bring together top interior design brands and their accessibility to all.

On a sunny afternoon in June, I made way to the Royal borough of Chelsea. Very posh! Having entered the lobby of the design centre, the first thing that struck me, was the building itself. Contemporary yet charming – the centre comprises of three circular structures flooded with natural light. Each is made up of four floors of boutiques and finished with an architectural glass and metal framed dome that opens to the London skies.

met by Sue at the exclusive Design Club (members only) who then accompanied me on a tour of the centre. Home to the biggest and best names in...
