I was born and brought up in England after my parents migrated from India in the late 1960’s and from a young age, I remember being very fond of art & craft, cooking, stitching and dance. The early 90’s saw an explosion of television programs and magazines dedicated to home and decor, and my interest for interiors slowly started gathering pace.

Fast forward and I’ve been married and settled in Chandigarh, India with twin sons for the past 15 years. When the boys turned 4, my creative juices were flowing once more. This time, however, I managed to complete a Master Diploma in Architectural Design and Interiors. I even landed my first assignment months before concluding the course. With time, I gained experience and was ready to serve clients on a professional level. In 2008, I set up Renu Soni Interior Design.

However, my journey as an interior designer has not been easy.  Accessibility of materials, soft furnishings, fittings and accessories within the tri-city has been quite challenging. It is improving, though I must admit Delhi has a lot more to offer and my trips there are quite frequent. Peoples’ preference for a particular design style is gradually taking more focus and fusing with mine and I guess I have the media and foreign vacations to thank for that. But sadly there are still a lot of individuals who choose to live in the “twilight zone”. Not for wanting to I’m sure, but for the lack of confidence. Selection of paint colours, size of furniture, upholstery fabric, curtain fabric, hardware, floor covering and wall covering can be a very daunting and confusing experience.

Hopefully, through my blog I can remove these fears and inspire you all with my experiences as an interior designer, share trends and decorating ideas to suit all budgets and what’s new in the tricity of Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula.
